The Big Launch

At the back end of 2015, the opening of our new self-storage site at Kettering seemed like a lifetime away. However, like everything, things have a tendency to creep up on you and before you know it, it’s all systems go.

A month or so before the launch, Jim and myself met up with Connect FM to plan an exciting ad campaign and competition for all local listeners, offering a £1,000 cheque to the lucky recipient.

On the morning of our launch day, we started to welcome the competition players. When all the introductions were done the time of reckoning arrived. With everybody inside the entrance to the Self Store due to the miserable weather, the 10 contestants each pulled a numbered key out of a bag. These keys were allocated to 10 padlocks with corresponding numbers on 10 units, all in a row. Each contestant lined up outside their unit. Steve the compare counted down and all 10 contestants opened their units at the same time…

LUCKY WINNER IS KEY NUMBER 5” – local resident Sharron Tinnon was the recipient of the £1,000 cheque.

All was not lost for the remaining 9 contestants. Each received a bottle of wine, chocolates and goodies from Connect FM as well as discount voucher for Storage, a keyring and mug from Kettering Self Store.

In addition to the Connect FM presenters attending and helping us organise the special day, we had Bernie the mascot from Northampton Saints Rugby Club entertaining everyone. Bernie kept a smile on everyone’s face and all the children (well almost all the children as some of the youngsters were a bit apprehensive of the 6ft plus dog!) amused whilst the formalities progressed.

A few photos of the Kettering Self Store staff (myself included) were taken with Bernie outside the entrance to the unit as well as a mock cutting of the ribbon to mark the official opening of the site.

I sit here now typing this out, just under 4 weeks after the official launch. Numerous enquiries later and with units already rented out, there is no doubt, that Kettering’s first custom build self-storage unit facility will turn out to be a successful venture.
